Prayers in the time of Coronavirus
Keep us, good Lord, under the shadow of Your mercy: sustain and support the anxious, be with those who care for the sick, and lift up all who are brought low; that we may find comfort knowing that nothing can separate us from Your love in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The Church of England
God of healing and hope, in Jesus You meet us in our places of pain and fear. Look with mercy on those who have contracted the new virus, on any who are vulnerable, and on all who feel in danger. Through this time of global concern, by Your Holy Spirit bring out the best, not the worst in us. Make us more aware of our interdependence on each other, and of the strength that comes from being one body in You; through Christ our wounded healer.
The Rev Dr Sam Wells, Vicar of the church of St Martin-in-the-Fields
Almighty God, Father of mercies, in His earthly life Your Son Jesus Christ went about doing good, healing all manner of sickness and disease among the people: comfort, heal and sanctify those who suffer in body, mind or spirit; grant to all doctors and nurses, and to all who tend the sick, skill, sympathy and patience; bless all who labour to prevent suffering, make them instruments of Your healing love, and continue through them Your loving purposes among us; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.
O God of unchangeable power and light eternal, look kindly upon the wonderful mystery of Your Church, and by the tranquil operation of Your perpetual providence, carry forward the work of human salvation: and let the whole world feel and see, the things which were being cast down are being raised up, and the things which had grown old are being made new, and all things are returning to perfection, through Him in whom they have their source, even Jesus Christ our Lord.
An ancient Eastertide prayer
For the dying
O Lord Jesus Christ, in Your last agony You committed Your spirit into the hands of Your Heavenly Father: have mercy on all sick and dying people; may death be to them the gate of everlasting life, and give to them the assurance of Your presence even in the dark hour of their passing; for You are the resurrection and the life and to You be the glory for ever and ever.

For the Departed
O eternal God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: accept our prayers for Your servants …………………… and grant them an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of Your saints; through Jesus Christ Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Guild of All Souls
Loving and merciful God, we entrust our brother/sister to your mercy. You loved him/her greatly in this life; now that he/she is freed from all its cares, give him/her happiness and peace for ever. The old order has passed away; welcome him/her now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus, Your Son, and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.
Rest eternal grant to them O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon them. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace and rise in glory.
