Information:  James was the son of Henry Larking Hursell 1859 – 1941 and Emma Hursell nee Forshew / Foscher.  His parents married at St Philip’s Church, Maidstone.  In 1891 they lived at 191 Upper Fant Road and Henry was a furnace stoker.  In 1901 the family lived at 22 Whitmore Street and Henry was a quarryman.  In 1911 James was 24 and a Gunner with 88 Coy Royal Garrison Artillery in China and Hong Kong.  James’s younger brother Stephen died in 1954 aged 60.
